American Cichlids and Other Species

Discover our selection of American cichlids, originating from Central and South America. This large family includes fish with extremely varied behaviours, sizes and colours.

From territorial Central American species to more peaceful South American cichlids, each fish has its own requirements regarding aquarium size, water parameters, aquarium layout and compatibility.

American cichlids include species belonging to genera such as Apistogramma, Mikrogeophagus, Andinoacara, Heros, Geophagus, Amatitlania and Cichlasoma, as well as many other groups popular in the aquarium hobby.

Their behaviour is one of their main attractions: pair formation, territorial defence, parental care of eggs and fry, and complex interactions between individuals make American cichlids particularly fascinating aquarium fish.
