Exotic Fish and Invertebrates for Freshwater Aquariums

Freshwater aquariums offer an extraordinary diversity of species. Colourful fish, species with fascinating behaviour, shrimp, crayfish, snails and crabs can be used to create very different aquariums depending on the available tank size, water parameters and the aquarist's preferences.

At NeoTropic, we offer a selection of exotic fish and freshwater invertebrates for aquariums.

Freshwater Exotic Fish

Exotic aquarium fish include many species originating from tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

Their care requirements vary considerably depending on the species. Temperature, pH, water hardness, aquarium size, territorial behaviour, diet and compatibility with other inhabitants must all be taken into account.

Before purchasing any fish, check the information provided on each product page to ensure that the species is suitable for your aquarium and compatible with the animals already present.

Freshwater Aquarium Invertebrates

Freshwater invertebrates are becoming increasingly popular in the aquarium hobby. They are appreciated for their colours and behaviour as well as for their role within the aquarium ecosystem.

Depending on availability, our selection may include freshwater shrimp, crayfish, aquarium snails and crabs.

Requirements vary considerably from one species to another. It is therefore important to check their water parameters, adult size, diet and compatibility with fish and other invertebrates.

How to Choose Fish and Invertebrates for Your Aquarium

Choosing aquarium inhabitants should not be based solely on their appearance. Several factors are essential, including tank size, temperature, pH, water hardness, adult size, behaviour and diet.

Compatibility between different species is also essential. A peaceful fish, shrimp, crayfish or snail will not necessarily have the same requirements or be suitable for keeping with the same tank mates.

It is preferable to build a compatible aquarium population gradually rather than selecting each species separately.
