NéoTropic is a professional French breeder of freshwater fish and invertebrates, based in Laillé, Ille-et-Vilaine (35), just a few minutes from Rennes in Brittany.
We breed and raise the majority of the fish and invertebrates we sell directly at our own facility. Our own production is complemented by animals sourced from other breeders as well as certain imported species, including wild Lake Malawi cichlids.
This combination of breeding and importing enables us to offer a particularly wide range of aquarium animals to both private aquarists and professionals.
NéoTropic holds a Certificate of Competence covering the breeding, keeping, sale and transit of freshwater fish and invertebrates.
Over 430 m² dedicated to our aquaculture breeding facility
Our facility includes more than 430 m² of heated buildings, containing over 300 m³ of water dedicated to the breeding, reproduction and growth of our animals.
Our facilities also include a 130 m² greenhouse as well as outdoor ponds.
These different facilities enable us to adapt breeding conditions to the requirements of the many species we produce, including tropical fish, cold-water fish and aquarium invertebrates.
For animals from our own production, breeding directly at our Laillé facility enables us to monitor them throughout their development, from reproduction and growth through to sale.
Freshwater ornamental fish and aquarium invertebrates
Our breeding facility produces a wide variety of aquatic species, available directly from our shop in Laillé or through our online store.
We offer, among others:
- cold-water fish, including koi carp;
- tropical freshwater fish, including Corydoras, Ancistrus, characins, guppies and many other species;
- a wide range of African cichlids, with a particular specialisation in species from Lake Malawi;
- aquarium invertebrates, including freshwater shrimp, crayfish, snails and other invertebrates.
The majority of the animals we sell are bred and raised directly by NéoTropic at our facility in Laillé. Our own production is complemented by animals sourced from other specialist breeders as well as certain imported species.
This combination enables us to maintain the majority of our production on site while offering aquarists a particularly wide choice of species.
Specialists in African cichlids
Cichlids are a major part of NéoTropic's activity.
We breed and raise numerous species and varieties of African cichlids, particularly species originating from Lake Malawi.
Our facilities and experience enable us to breed, raise and monitor these fish for both private aquarists and professional customers.
Our knowledge of these species also enables us to help customers choose suitable fish and provide advice on their care, feeding, reproduction and compatibility with other cichlid species.
Importer of wild Lake Malawi cichlids
In addition to the cichlids produced at our own breeding facility, NéoTropic is also an importer of wild Lake Malawi cichlids.
These wild-caught fish are transported through the applicable regulated import channels. They provide specialist aquarists with access to certain species, geographical localities and wild populations that are particularly sought after.
This activity complements our own production and enables us to offer both captive-bred cichlids and selected wild specimens imported from Lake Malawi.
Professional breeding and rigorous hygiene standards

The quality of our breeding operation is based on daily monitoring of our animals, careful control of their living conditions and a diet suited to their requirements.
Our animals are fed without artificial colourings or growth hormones, in order to promote natural and balanced development.
We also apply strict hygiene and prophylactic measures throughout our breeding facility, including disinfection of hands and equipment, maintenance of aquariums and breeding tanks, daily monitoring of the animals and sanitary management of the different production areas.
These practices help to reduce health risks and maintain good breeding conditions throughout our facility.

Our shop is open to the public on Saturdays. Visits can also be arranged by appointment during the week.
