Freshwater Exotic Fish

Freshwater Exotic Fish for Aquariums

Freshwater exotic fish offer a remarkable variety of colours, shapes and behaviours. Depending on the species, they can be kept in community aquariums, in groups, as pairs, or may require more specific care conditions.

At NeoTropic, we offer a selection of freshwater aquarium fish, allowing aquarists to create a population suited to their aquarium.

How to Choose Aquarium Fish

Before choosing a fish based on its appearance alone, several important factors should be considered.

The aquarium size, adult size of the fish, temperature, pH and water hardness are essential. You should also consider the species' behaviour, lifestyle and compatibility with the other inhabitants of the aquarium.

Some species naturally live in groups and should be kept with several members of the same species, while others may be territorial or require specifically designed areas within the aquarium.

Compatibility Between Aquarium Fish

Compatibility is an essential consideration when creating an aquarium community.

Two species with similar water requirements are not necessarily compatible. Their adult size, territorial behaviour, diet and swimming area should also be taken into account.

The information provided on our product pages will help you understand the requirements of each species before introducing them into your aquarium.

Water Parameters and Aquarium Conditions

Each species has its own requirements regarding water temperature, pH and hardness. Maintaining suitable and stable water parameters is essential for keeping freshwater aquarium fish under appropriate conditions.

The aquarium should also provide enough space for the fish to swim and, depending on the species, suitable hiding places, plants or territories.

Feeding Freshwater Aquarium Fish

The diet of freshwater aquarium fish varies considerably between species. Some are mainly omnivorous, while others may have more specialised dietary requirements.

Always choose food suited to the species, its size and its feeding behaviour. The individual product pages provide information about the dietary requirements of the fish available from NeoTropic.
